Our Selektor 2-Tone graphic t-shirt is a salute to UK bands like The Beat, The Specials and indeed, The Selector. 2-Tone is a British pop music genre of the late 1970s and early 80s and was essentially a white take on black Jamaican ska music. Ska, characterised by its upbeat tempo, syncopated rhythms and pushy horn melodies, was brought to the UK by Jamaican immigrants in the late 1950s. These 2-Tone bands (having a multiracial line-up) addressed key issues of racial tension, unemployment, poverty and inequality. 2-Tone grew into a subcultural movement that influenced fashion, art, youth culture, and music.
